BuzzBell
Chat with no app server.
The problem
Most chat apps put an app server between the client and the data. I wanted to see how far Postgres alone could carry it, safely.
What I built
- Row level security, column grants and storage rules as the entire authorization layer.
- Realtime messages, presence and typing on top, plus Postgres functions for DMs, an inbox with unread counts, search and rate limits.
- Tests that try to read what they should not, run in CI on every push.
Stack: React, TypeScript, Supabase, Postgres RLS.
What changed
- 34
- offline SQL checks try to break the policies
- 12
- live RLS tests from real guest sessions
